Year: 2017. Make: GMC. Model: Terrain. Trim: SLE. Drivetrain: All Wheel Drive. Engine: 2.4L 4-cylinder. Transmission: 6-speed automatic. Exterior: Blue. Certified.

The 2017 Terrain SLE is a practical, comfortable compact SUV with all wheel drive and more rear legroom than you would expect from the outside. Blue over black cloth, and kilometres are low for a 2017. The Terrain has always been the one that rides quietly and sits a bit taller than the rest of the class, and that is still true here. It suits a commuter or a small family in Kanata, Stittsville or Nepean who wants winter traction without paying for a bigger truck.

The Terrain runs the 2.4L Ecotec direct-injection four with 182 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic, with on-demand all wheel drive that sends power to the rear when the front starts to slip. Nobody is going to call it quick, and we will not pretend otherwise, but it is smooth, easy to live with and has the traction Ottawa winters ask for.

The Terrain on this one has heated front seats, remote engine start for the cold mornings, and an 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar. The 7-inch IntelliLink touchscreen handles Bluetooth audio and phone, SiriusXM is on board, and OnStar brings a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. Rear vision camera, steering wheel audio controls, a leather-wrapped wheel, automatic climate control, auto-dimming mirror, a 60/40 split folding rear seat that also slides, and 18-inch alloys.
