Year: 2022. Make: Toyota. Model: RAV4 Hybrid. Trim: Hybrid XSE. Drivetrain: All Wheel Drive. Engine: 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid. Transmission: CVT automatic. Exterior: Gray. Interior: Black. Certified.

This 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XSE is Gray over black, and the kilometres are low for its age. XSE is the sporty-looking RAV4 Hybrid, with its own blacked-out trim and sport-tuned suspension, but it is still the same sensible, easy-to-own Toyota underneath. It suits a commuter or a small family in Ottawa, Kanata, Stittsville or Nepean who wants all-wheel drive for the winter and does not want to be at the pump every few days.

The RAV4 Hybrid XSE pairs the 2.5L four-cylinder with Toyota hybrid system for 219 net horsepower, through a continuously variable automatic. The all-wheel drive is electronic on-demand, with a separate electric motor driving the rear wheels when it needs grip, so there is no driveshaft to the back. It is quicker than the gas RAV4, which surprises people, and around town it spends a lot of time running on battery alone with regenerative braking topping it back up.

The RAV4 Hybrid XSE cabin has heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver seat with power lumbar, power moonroof, power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Smart key with push-button start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and SiriusXM are all standard. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 covers pre-collision with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams and road sign assist, and there is blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert plus the backup camera. Nobody is going to call a RAV4 exciting to look at in a parking lot, but the XSE is about as close as it gets.
